Challenge
Through personal tragedy, SYPAQ’s founding family was touched by Challenge many years ago. These days, SYPAQ is proud to be able to donate a portion of its profits to Challenge on an annual basis.
Challenge is a not-for-profit organisation passionately dedicated to improving the lives of families living with cancer. Challenge establishes a support network for families that aims to alleviate the burdensome stress that having a child with cancer demands and imposes on a family.
Many families that find themselves in this situation are forced to adapt to a new ‘normal’ that often causes their children to miss out on the joys of childhood. Life becomes regulated and restricted – all activities, from running in the park to a play date with a friend, must be carefully monitored. This can be a major disruption to the family’s world. Challenge aims to help by restoring some of the connections and experiences that cancer can restrict.
Challenge is more than an organisation; Challenge is a community. Challenge recognises that the enormous stress and impact of childhood cancer is felt throughout the family. Therefore, they choose to help the family collectively rather than individually, aiming to address the needs of all family members. They offer fun-filled camps and activities for children and their siblings. They provide parent retreats where mums and dads can meet, interact and confide in others travelling a similar journey. Challenge also offers holiday accommodation to families, so they can bond and share some much-needed quality time together.
